HiperScan GmbH sets new standards in near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) analytic.

January 19, 2009

A revolution in the near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) is done by the implementation of an innovative micro scanner technology. This new technology is based on a microchip which deflects light in a reproducible manner.

The already field tested and forward-looking base technology enables the fabrication of rather small, extremely rugged and very fast near-infrared spectrometers. This allows new analytical processes in food- and process analytics and quality control. As well the identification of raw materials, compounds and blends is now possible. In addition to the classical use of NIR spectroscopy in well known industry sectors like chemicals, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industry, totally new applications are possible: For example highly flexible handheld devices will establish a real mass market for NIR spectrometers.

HiperScan stands for first class technologies and applications dealing with the analysis of materials in the near infrared. The spectrometers are developed by HiperScan and are sold as OEM products worldwide.

HiperScan is a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems in Dresden and is already well known in the market as a leading edge supplier of spectrometers. The High-Tech Gründerfonds invests 500.000 EUR into HiperScan GmbH as equity capital. Stefan Friedrichowski, PhD, managing director of sales, explains: “The capital will be consequently invested into the further development of our product portfolio and into further strengthening of our distribution channels.”

Andreas Olmes, PhD, investment manager of the High-Tech Gründerfonds, adds: “There are only a few successfully products worldwide based on Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS). HiperScan has succeeded in developing a product which sets new standards in the analytics market.
