ICE Gateway: HTGF invests in intelligent LED-Lighting

ICE Gateway integrates efficient LED-lamps with proprietary communication and control electronics for the M2M infrastructure of smart cities and outdoor facilities of industrial customers. In combination with an innovative contracting model (“Lighting-as-a-Service”), together with a big player of the telecommunications industry, ICE Gateway offers the replacement of the lamps without initial capital investment (capex free) and with an immediate reduction of operative expenditures through energy saving. The built-in intelligence allows further complementary value-added M2M services. ICE Gateway has thus developed the ideal solution for cities and industries and is optimally positioned for market entrance.

Information, communication, logistics and energy are the drivers of smart city services of the future. In addition to that, EU regulations require the progressive replacement of mercury-vapor-based lamps until 2015. This creates a market opportunity of over 30 Million streetlights that will be replaced. ICE Gateway intends to use this window of opportunity for the outdoor LED market, in order to install a broad base of M2M communication gateways and offer additional services.

“Lamp poles are positioned at strategic locations and will take over a more important role, than simply being used as street lighting. The lighting itself should be seen as one component of the overall city infrastructure for logistics, information and security. This is why we are developing a holistic solution that is easy to use and which eliminates investment risks for our customers.” says the CEO of ICE Gateway, Ramin L. Mokhtari.

The communication modules, which are essential for the dimming of the LED lamps, allow the highest energy saving, quality and longest life-time, compared to conventional LEDs. Due to the high savings, customers of ICE Gateway are capable of investing in additional M2M services, in order to become both, more competitive and more attractive. Moreover, the company has developed an open platform for manufacturer of LED lights and M2M products in order to establish strong partnerships.

“Especially exciting is the integration of lighting in the M2M networks of telecommunication firms. ICE Gateway will be then optimally positioned to offer further value added services in the field of smart city.”, says the Investment Manager of High-Tech Gründerfonds, Dr. Guillem Sagué.
