CV
Before joining HTGF as an investment manager, Felix co-founded an AI startup that focused on quality assurance in the field of autonomous driving.
After his bachelor’s degree at WHU, Felix studied mathematics at Humboldt University in Berlin. His interest in statistics and optimisation theory eventually led him into the exciting world of machine learning and to research questions around the robustness of high-risk AI models.
In addition to his enthusiasm for start-ups and innovative technologies, Felix is active in a variety of sports in his free time (gym, football, swimming) and is a big fan of board games.
Four questions for …
What drives you?

I am an intrinsically motivated person by nature – it doesn’t take much to inspire or “drive” me. My drive lies in understanding and solving complex problems and in constantly improving the status quo. Less abstractly speaking: I simply enjoy tackling topics and problems together with talented start-up teams that until recently were considered unsolvable.
What fascinates you about the pre-seed / seed phase?

What particularly fascinates me about this early phase is the focus on founding teams. In later phases, the focus is primarily on KPIs and financials – which, as a trained mathematician, naturally also has its appeal. But personally, I am particularly fascinated by the central question of whether a particular founding team has the necessary skills to turn a rough idea into a successful company in the medium and long term.
What are the most important skills for founders?

A few years ago, I would probably have answered that founders must first and foremost be visionary masterminds. Today, I am convinced that this alone is unfortunately usually not enough – rather, a high level of frustration tolerance and the ability to continuously adapt oneself and one’s own environment are essential additional success factors.
What do you value most about your job?

There are many things that I appreciate about “VC life”, even in direct comparison to my previous life as a founder: the extreme variety of technological topics, the daily dialogue with exciting personalities and the high degree of autonomy and independence. All in all, being both a founder and a VC investor is a great job – but at the moment, the job as an investor is just right for me!
