SAP invests into High-Tech Gründerfonds II
SAP AG, worldwide market leader for company software, has participated in High-Tech Gründerfonds II, thus increasing the number of industrial investors to 14 companies. In doing so, SAP AG, the most successful German ”start-up“ of the last 40 years, demonstrates its commitment to the German start-up community.
The High-Tech Gründerfonds II started in October 2011 with a volume of 288.5 million EUR in the first closing. With that it provides innovative technology companies, in addition to an active support, a seed financing of up to 500,000 EUR as risk capital and can also invest up to 1,5 million EUR per company in subsequent rounds.
”With the commitment of the SAP AG in the HTGF II the company sends a very positive signal into the seed market, especially for the boom in the case of software start-ups in Germany”, says Dr. Alex von Frankenberg, managing director of High-Tech Gründerfonds, and he adds: “With the participation of SAP AG we intend to increase the amount of successful high-growth companies in the software business, thus producing further world market leaders in the long run”. A commitment is useful for both, the investors as well as the portfolio companies of HTGF, says von Frankenberg: “On the one hand the cooperation with young technology companies enables groups to get access to extraordinary innovation, and on the other hand enables our portfolio companies to provide further support in developing the company.“
Dr. Jörg Sievert, Managing Director SAP Ventures, summarizes the commitment of SAP AG as investor as follows: “We are looking forward to supporting the High Tech Gründerfonds. Initiatives of this type are exactly what Germany needs in order to become even more attractive as High Tech location in the future.” For SAP there is a further practical value, says Sievert: “We can imagine to cooperate with some companies of the portfolio of the HTGF, amongst other things concerning the application of our extremely powerful data bank HANA.“
