Deep-Tech made in Germany: 468 Capital from Berlin joins Natif.ai as investor
January 27, 2021
With 468 Capital, Deep-tech startup Natif.ai from Saarbrücken has gained another high-profile investor alongside HTGF. The Berlin-based VC of former Rocket-Internet executives will take a significant stake in the now closed seven-figure financing round.
With Natif.ai, a new player finally appears on the high-tech map of Germany. The experienced founding team has now been able to attract the new leading deep-tech investor from Berlin. 468 Capital was founded by Rocket Internet executives Alexander Kudlich and Ludwig Ensthaler together with Silicon Valley Mesophere founder Florian Leibert, and had raised over 180 million euros in record time. The fund invests exclusively in deep-tech startups that impress with unique future technology in the B2B sector.
According to Ludwig Ensthaler, it was not only the experienced founding team that convinced us, but also the outstanding technology, which represents a forward-looking disruption of a basic technology thanks to the self-developed Deep-OCR.
Natif.ai solves a major problem in the automation of document processes with unprecedented precision and speed, from which every company can benefit.

The founding team of Natif.ai had specifically chosen 468 Capital.
With 468 Capital we have found a very experienced investor who will both open the door to international markets and massively accelerate our growth with its network and experience.

Investment in technology and location
With the seed financing, Natif.ai is primarily investing in the further development of its technology: with the help of various models based on artificial intelligence (AI), they streamline document-based processes in a matter of seconds. This makes processes more efficient and allows employees to focus on their original tasks. Natif.ai will add financial and contract documents as well as insurance policies to its product portfolio within 2021. There are also plans to automate the document input management.
Founding the startup in Saarbrücken rather than Berlin was made quite deliberately. Manuel Zapp co-founder and former employee of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), who is responsible for the technology at Natif.ai justifies this, among other things, in the fact that with the Contact Point for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KWT) at Saarland University and the DFKI, two excellent institutions are available, “which are an essential part of Natif.ai’s success.”
DFKI is also delighted with the success of its spin-off. For Professor Wolfgang Wahlster, an AI pioneer for 40 years, founding director of DFKI and winner of the German President’s Future Prize, current speech technology offers completely new types of digitalization potential.
Natif.ai shows that “AI Made in Germany” is globally competitive and that market-ready solutions are emerging from DFKI. The leap innovation from machine learning to automated understanding of the content of different types of business documents has been created by Natif.ai on the basis of a unique research environment in computational linguistics, language technology and AI that currently exists only in Saarland in Europe.
