Successful exit for High-Tech Gründerfonds – UNICEPTA acquires social intelligence specialist Ubermetrics
January 14, 2021
- UNICEPTA is a global full-service provider for media and marketing intelligence
- Berlin-based start-up Ubermetrics has developed a content intelligence platform to meet the needs of communicators based on specially developed and trained artificial intelligence
- The two companies will now combine their AI-based technology platforms and pool their technical expertise; both brands will be maintained
- Ubermetrics founders Patrick Bunk and Daniel Siewert (CEO and CTO) will have a stake in the new combined enterprise
High-Tech Gründerfonds has sold its stake in Ubermetrics. The seed investor had been at the company’s side over nine years of development. The exit is a real win–win for all parties. UNICEPTA and Ubermetrics will now be able to expand their expertise in the automated analysis of large amounts of data to support communications and marketing management activities.
In the digital world, communicators and marketers need to be increasingly fast at gathering information about their company, brands and industries and incorporating the relevant insights they have gained into their business. This is a trend that will continue to grow exponentially in the next ten years.
Ubermetrics has a vast data pool for social media and one of the best technology platforms based on semantic AI at hand – which allows to automatically evaluate large quantities of language information. We are very pleased that Patrick Bunk, founder and CEO of Ubermetrics, and his team have decided to team up with UNICEPTA.
Georg Stahl, Managing Partner at UNICEPTA responsible for Business Development and Finances
Ubermetrics analyses more than 460 million social media sources as well as blogs and forums in real time. Ubermetrics’ technology platform is a highly scalable SaaS solution with a focus on monitoring and text mining, used by more than 200 companies.
We find teaming up with UNICEPTA highly motivating. Two intelligent companies are now working on the same technological vision: We want to make AI accessible for an ever-increasing number of communications and marketing areas with an easy and quick solution.
Patrick Bunk, founder and CEO of Ubermetrics
Ubermetrics was founded as a spin-off of the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2011. Founders Patrick Bunk and Daniel Siewert play a leading role on numerous German and European digitalisation projects for media outlets and brands.
Dr. Ulrich Schmitt, Senior Investment Manager at High-Tech Gründerfonds, guided Ubermetrics to a successful exit.
We’re delighted about the transaction. There will be a great deal of potential for synergies both in terms of sales and product development as a result of the two companies merging. And for High-Tech Gründerfonds, we’ve achieved a substantial multiple.
Dr. Ulrich Schmitt, Senior Investment Manager at HTGF
UNICEPTA will remain a leading innovator and consultancy partner for international companies and larger medium-sized enterprises. Ubermetrics, meanwhile, will continue to develop its automated intelligence solutions under the leadership of Patrick Bunk. Ubermetrics will also bring new intelligence solutions in the field of risk management and supply chain risk to market while also providing text-mining services for SaaS and analytics firms.
The transaction is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
Both parties have agreed not to disclose the specific details of the transaction. The joint press release published by UNICEPTA and Ubermetrics can be found here.
