Berlin-based fintech start-up remind.me secures seed financing

May 24, 2018

High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and other business angels are investing almost EUR 1 million in total in remind me GmbH. The company, which provides a reminder and optimisation service for all types of contracts and insurance policies, is set to invest the money in refining its platform and expanding collaboration in Germany.

Berlin-based fintech start-up remind.me provides users with a convenient reminder and optimisation service for contracts and insurance policies. It has all bases covered, including electricity, gas and mobile phone contracts, as well as car insurance. The message for users is clear: “Forget about cancellation deadlines. Leave it to us.” remind.me sends users reminders so they don’t miss a cancellation deadline, while also providing tailored recommendations for switching tariffs or suppliers.

The idea came from the company’s founders, Daniel Engelbarts and Christian Lang. Prior to remind.me, they successfully founded Sparwelt.de, a savings portal for deals and coupons that they sold to RTL at the end of 2014. By launching remind.me, the two founders are looking to put an end to the contract chaos once and for all, driven by their primary goal of saving people money.

Daniel Engelbarts, co-founder of remind me GmbH: “In Germany, nowhere near enough of us regularly review our contracts and get better deals. On average, households pass up on savings of EUR 1,700 per year in the five main categories alone. With remind.me, we are looking to put a stop to this and help put more money back in people’s pockets.”

For electricity and gas, remind.me even provides a fully automatic switching service, enabling users to benefit from the annual savings of moving to a new supplier or tariff – without the hassle of having to do so every year. The entire optimisation service is free of charge for all users at all times.

The start-up commenced operations in early 2017 and its revenues are already in six-figure territory. remind.me will use the funding to expand its team and further develop its technological platform.

Simon Math, the HTGF investment manager responsible for remind.me, explains: “An experienced team that works well together – this is something that particularly impressed us. The substantial and tangible added value generated for users, as well as its growing relevance, are aspects that we find especially interesting, and we look forward to supporting the team as they tap into this major market.”

remind.me will have its own booth at this year’s HTGF Family Day in Bonn on 29 and 30 May
