11th edition of MedTech Radar: Focusing on the healthcare of the future

November 9, 2018

Digital and intelligent – that’s the healthcare of the future. Many medical technology companies already have promising products on offer. Artificial intelligence in particular has great potential. This eleventh edition of MedTech Radar, a joint media service of the Bundesverband Medizintechnologie (BVMed), Earlybird Venture Capital, the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), and BIOCOM AG, reports on ideas currently being developed in the fields of radiology, diagnostics and prevention. A print copy of the latest edition of MedTech Radar is available from MEDICA 2018, while the PDF version can be downloaded in German and English from here.

Fast, precise and reliable: nowadays, health analyses have to solve some big tasks. Many medical technology start-ups are developing new technologies that allow for health data not only to be handled in digital form but also processing the information intelligently, for instance to help doctors in specific settings such as radiology, skin cancer diagnostics, treatment selection or hand hygiene. The latest edition of MedTech Radar is dedicated to the topic of artificial intelligence and reports on new companies with promising ideas for the healthcare of tomorrow in Germany.

“Unconventional business models working beyond established medical technologies while addressing major medical needs really excite us investors,” says Thom Rasche, partner at Earlybird.

“New products that solve a problem in the healthcare system while also dovetailing with current systems are well positioned to make the move into routine application,” stresses Anke Caßing, Investment Manager at HTGF.

“International companies with a business presence in Germany benefit from a growing medtech start-up scene boasting increasing collaboration opportunities and partnerships,” emphasises Gabriel Flemming, Senior Manager Healthcare at GTAI.

Joachim Schmitt, Managing Director at BVMed, adds that “The medical industry currently faces a dramatic change due to digitization, changes in the clinical market and new regulatory demands. Companies need to provide solutions, not only mere products. Therefore, they have to open up for start-ups and their digital expertise.”

To help networking between start-ups and the medical technology industry,
the first “Medtech Radar Live” event was organised by Radar partners in May 2018. A second gathering is scheduled for next year. It will take place in Berlin on 5th June 2019. “We will complement the start-up pitching session with further programme elements. Those will explore the conditions required for innovation and collaboration with the medical technology industry and mid-sized companies,” explains Sandra Wirsching, editor at medtech zwo magazine. For more information on the event, see www.medtech-radar.live.

The latest print edition of MedTech-Radar is available during MEDICA 2018 at the booths of medtech zwo/BIOCOM AG (Hall 15, F42) and GTAI (Hall 15, F37).
